I was at a training a few weeks ago and they were telling us about this super strange, counterintuitive behavior that we humans sometimes exhibit in our decision making processes—-when whatever choice we’re making suddenly becomes complex.

It was mind boggling.  Anything but rational. 

And yet this behavior was consistent.  Those who monitored it pretty much nailed it down to a formula.

Yeah, it WAS a formula.  And they were using it deliberately.

Every time they implemented this “formula” it would skew people’s buying decisions.

I’m being vague, I know.  It’s because it’s tricky to explain.

But check this out. It’s wildly fascinating to witness. (I love psychology!)

A friend sent over this TED video today.  The dude speaking—Dan Ariely—a behavioral economist, starts busting out all these research findings that clearly show how irrational we are.  In fact he’s got all these trippy illustrations to prove that we’re “Predictably Irrational“.

That’s the name of his book, BTW.  He’s an expert on this stuff.
